So, Shadow found a way to age his immortal body, having hated being compared and mistaken for Sonic so many times and looked down on by others for his body's apparent age appearance. He is now faster, stronger, and has more control over his Chaos Abilities. This means he infinitely more dangerous, though his mind is still in pieces in some places when it comes to Maria or what's right/wrong.
Theory:
Shadow was designed to look like a teenager by Gerald Robotnik when Maria was only 5 years old, as he had estimated the completion of "Project Shadow" when to land between Maria's teen years. That way Maria would have a companion that was her 'age' that could also possibly provide the cure for her disease, which she had shared genetically with her mother, Gerald's Daughter.
"Project Shadow" had originally started during the mother's teen years, Gerald accepting the commission to try and artificially create the Ultimate Lifeform in hopes of saving her. When the mother died in childbirth, Gerald worked harder to try and perfect the Ultimate Lifeform which led him to making the deal with the BlackArms after his newborn grand-daughter was diagnosed with the same illness.
Not foreseeing the tragedy that was to happen, Gerald had also developed a method/serum that would allow Shadow to age so he could be a lifelong companion to Maria and be the Earth's guardian. The serum would not only age him to the wanted Age-range but would increase his speed, strength, and control over the Chaos Energy.

I'm so happy!!! I updated this picture I had done so long ago~ And yes, the lines are supposed to look like that, since Shadow is a black hedgehog it would have made seeing the lines/designs harder, and if I had done Kharis properly then they would have looked out of sync....so...yeah...
